About Antivirus

Just because you own antivirus software doesn't mean you are protected.

Most consumers buy anti virus software thinking it will protect them; not knowing it is could fail and certainly not expecting it to fail.

Do you update your antivirus software regularly?  Do you know how?

Anti virus software sometimes fails. It fails to detect newly discovered virus. It especially fails to detect new virus that are so new the anti virus people are not yet even aware of them!

What will you do when it happens to you?

Who will you call?  Is your data safe?

Do you know what a virus hoax is?

Metrogeek has experience working with single and multi-computer environments ensuring that your data is protected or to help recover in the event of a disaster.

Additionally, we try to prevent virus disasters by implementing policies and regular maintenance on your workstations and networks.

Always remember, just because a learned friend or colleague forwards you a virus warning - doesn't make it real!  Following the advice of a virus hoax can do just as much damage as a real virus.

Factoids

Symantec Security Response (Norton Antivirus) detects and develops an anti virus cure for approx 1-5 new virus/Trojans/backdoors per day!

Despite a significant increase to almost universal anti virus product usage, the rate of virus infections in corporate America doubled to more than 21 infections per 1000 computers each month during the 1996 to 1997 survey period. This statistic took a similar jump to nearly 32 infections per 1000 computers each month during 1997 to 1998 ", (quote from Trend Micro Antivirus)

There are viruses which scan your computer files, using names, email addresses and your original documents to create new emails. These emails are then sent to others thus infecting them (with your documents and information visible)

Trojans and backdoors will, once installed, allow anyone (outside your computer) more or less complete access to your computer. They can send and change documents, log your keystrokes, capture everything done (from login at the bank to credit card numbers).
